"La P .... e F ... e", or La pauvre femme / by Benoît Joseph Marsollier de Vivetières, first printed Paris, 1796 A dramatic play in one act, composed by the author in 1792 from eyewitness accounts presented to the Assemblée nationale legislative, concerning the death of Colonel Mauduit, commander of the regiment at Port-au-Prince, Saint-Domingue, March 4, 1791. Mauduit's faithful servant, a negro named Domingue, falls on his sword over his master's body. Not mentioned in the play, however, is the violent circumstances of the treatment of the body of Mauduit after death.
