Rescue of the Bounty: Disaster And Survival in Superstorm Sandy

Cover Rescue of the Bounty: Disaster And Survival in Superstorm Sandy
Genres: Fiction
He saw the first comber out of the corner of his eye and took a big breath and dove downward into it, the same as a person might do at the seashore when he fears a breaking wave is going to knock him over. Holding his breath, Dan could feel himself get tumbled, but he knew he was much safer under the water than in the maw of the wave on the surface. He let the moving mountain slide past, then fought to the surface. Blowing water out of his snorkel, he was preparing to take in a deep lungful of air when the second wave caught him, driving him deep. Dan’s entire body screamed for oxygen, and he kicked and stroked toward the light, toward the surface. When his head popped out of the foam, he coughed up green water, trying to clear his lungs.
Fortunately a small swell was next, and he let the current push him up and over it. He was far from the raft and didn’t even think about swimming to it, knowing Neil would lower the hook as soon as he got the survivor out of the basket.
In the cabin,
... Adam struggled to get out of the basket, first pivoting so he could be on his knees, then lifting his chest out while placing his hands on the helicopter floor.MoreLess
